About Krekel's West

Has a drive thru

Located at 1425 N Oakland Ave, Decatur, IL 62526, Krekel's West operates as a burger serving Decatur in Illinois. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 10:30 am–9 pm. Note that it does not open on Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (217) 362-0121. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is krekelswest.net, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Hmmm a few things to unpack here. I went into this location for the 1st time (I usually go through drive thru) and seen some alarming things. I seen maybe one person wearing gloves while handling food and drinks. I witnessed a drive thru cashier making ice cream cones with her bare hands and touching everything else in the mean time. Hands never appeared to be washed. Tables were VERY dirty. They had a million people in the back and not one person cleaning tables. Every table was dirty like on sight. Also, quality of food is way down but prices are up. Burgers look smaller too. And fries were lukewarm. They forgot multiple items and I paid over $30 for 2 meals which is crazy but I digress.

First, apparently Google has the time of closing wrong so please be aware if you go after 9 PM. They will not take your order. However, I was in line 5 minutes until 9 PM and they still wouldn’t take my order. In addition to cutting me off, even though I had spent 20 minutes in line, the sassy little lippy young girl over the speaker had a bad attitude. Instead of explaining, she threw her weight down and just wouldn’t communicate. I would definitely reevaluate coming back here. Even though the food is great the service and atmosphere sucked tonight. I hope they reevaluate their staffing and hire a manager who will be fair to customers who have been in line long enough to have their order taken before the place closes and staff who are kind and communicative.

If you are on a lunch break or don't want a 15-20 minute wait for greasy fast food, don't come to this location. We arrived on a Tuesday evening well before any dinner rush, and pulled in behind 3 other drive thru vehicles. After placing our order for 2 milkshakes, we waited another 10 minutes to get to the window. Surely you would think 2 milkshakes could be ready and waiting at this point, but we watched all of the employees meander around inside. The cherry on top, so to speak, was getting my "butterscotch" milkshake, and discovering it was simply vanilla. Definitely NOT worth the hype at this location due to their slow speeds and lack of attention to detail in the orders. If the workers looked like they were getting slammed and they were hustling, I always give grace to the staff. However, the lack of consideration for the customers waiting was very apparent.

We have a big family and there was a bus there with a team that had just ordered food. The girl was so nice and funny. She didn't get stressed and got out order right and we didn't wait long at all. The food is phenomenal. Best burgers around, and the ice cream is a dream. It is all I ate through chemo and radiation that kept good flavor.

I was 3rd in line at the drive thru at 2:30 on a Tuesday. The 2 in front of me had already ordered and were waiting to pay and get their food. Neither one looked like they had a large order. I ordered a double cheeseburger and a diet coke or Pepsi. Prerty easy order. When I got to the window there were 3 workers I could see in the front area and no customers at the inside counter. I waited and waited and waited, I tried to get their attention to hurry them a bit. There was no sense of urgency, no apology for the wait. The sandwich was good and hot but my drink was not diet anything. I'm not sure what it was but it wasn't good. I normally don't stop here because they are slow but yesterday was exceptionally slow.
